I have that same issue with the complete lack of emotional connection between the guy who played young Darth Vadar and Natalie Portman.

Maybe it was both Darrens? Samantha thought she could magically change them? :)Mattyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05504775167541916213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3878753035017181139.post-5231197138727327392012-02-21T04:56:43.484-08:002012-02-21T04:56:43.484-08:00Oh, I got the reference as soon as I saw the pic b...Oh, I got the reference as soon as I saw the pic but then again I grew up watching Bewitched. I always wished I could wiggle my nose like that. But the kiss thing I think was common for the 70's and I think I read somewhere the guy who played Darren was gay. Can't remember which one though...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3878753035017181139.post-709439558418148232012-02-19T18:52:51.866-08:002012-02-19T18:52:51.866-08:00Well, now I'm thinking about gender-roles in a...Well, now I'm thinking about gender-roles in all forms of fantasy. The whole conflict of the show was that he wanted her to be "normal," but then thoroughly enjoyed her creativity and adventures to make his life more interesting. And yes--you're right. The male warlocks were assholes: arrogant, foppish, and patronizing. And, let's face it, it helped uptight Christian U.S. audiences swallow the whole "she's really a wild pagan witch, but she has nice drapes and upholstery" thing. I agree she definitely wasn't a fluffball.

Regardless, at least in Azeroth I get to be all the Samantha Stevens I want, and hang with the warlocks and mortals in equal measure.Mattyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05504775167541916213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3878753035017181139.post-91366813947558010002012-02-19T18:30:16.864-08:002012-02-19T18:30:16.864-08:00But I feel like I've stolen your post now... b...But I feel like I've stolen your post now... blah!Navimiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08504557372435466448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3878753035017181139.post-20760237308278024752012-02-19T18:26:12.340-08:002012-02-19T18:26:12.340-08:00I think it's because he accepted her as she wa...I think it's because he accepted her as she was, he didn't try to make her give up or take advantage of her abilities. But now you've made me think about it, it was basically that 70s thing of how strong women always seem to turn into fluffballs of pathetic when it comes to men, and happy to dumb themselves down to please their man. Gosh. I'd never even thought about that before. And maybe because all the male warlocks were assholes. That might also account for her choosing a normal person.Navimiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08504557372435466448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3878753035017181139.post-9345475973759144732012-02-19T17:11:06.818-08:002012-02-19T17:11:06.818-08:00I need to add this random thought: I never, ever g...I need to add this random thought: I never, ever got why Samantha loved Darren so much. Why give up all the sexuality, power, magic, and awesomeness for a bland suburban life? His kisses seemed like little thorn pricks, and aside from giving her a beautiful daughter, I just don't see it. I can't blame Endora for having fun at his expense (and his career). But maybe I'm weird for analyzing the quality of television marriages.Mattyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05504775167541916213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3878753035017181139.post-85423400436654421962012-02-19T16:33:38.600-08:002012-02-19T16:33:38.600-08:00He's the only thing I accidentally ever found ...He's the only thing I accidentally ever found on my own!Tome of the Ancienthttp://tomeoftheancient.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3878753035017181139.post-70482918047470855762012-02-19T13:58:55.462-08:002012-02-19T13:58:55.462-08:00OMG I love that!
