Sorry, Frost.

Inspired by Garrosh Hellscream's lyrical prose work for National Poetry Month, I thought I would try my hand at it too. I realize he wants ideas, but I am certain he does not lack for adoring fans who will be his muses.

The Quest Not Taken
By Mataoka

Two quests diverged in a starting zone
And I am sorry I could not complete both
And be the hero, a double-boxed clone
My forty-ninth alt, starting to be a drone
King or Commander, had to choose the appropriate oath

Then took the other, as just as rewarding
And having perhaps the greater points of experience
Because one had a boat, and wanted boarding
Though as for passing Dark Moon Faire interference
And my bags were full from all the hoarding

And both that morning equally lay
In boots and greaves, no step had gem or enchant
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing I would never go back once it turned grey
The chances of doing it also were scant

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere levels and levels hence:
Two quests diverged in a starting zone, and I,
I took the one with more experience points,
And those heirlooms made all the difference.

Here is Frost's ubiquitous poem:

The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

    1. Thank you so much! High praise indeed! Somewhere there's great American poet turning in his grave, I fear...

  2. When I read the first two lines I thought, this reminds me of that Robert Frost poem about two paths, and as I read further you HAD based it on that! I loved your poem Matty, the last verse especially is superb and really clever.
